Keyless Entry Dead
I returned from a week long vacation and found that neither of the keyless entry remotes for my 95 Ranger will work. I even replaced the batteries in one. I had no problem before I left. The power door locks will work from the interior buttons. Should I attempt to reprogram? Any thoughts besides submitting to the mercy of the dealer would be appreciated.

Any idea where I can get reliable reprogramming info? I tried turning the key on and off about 8 times but nothing happened. I don't know if this is telling me something or I am just not doing it right. Also, is it possible to knock this out in a thunderstorm? Since the truck was fine before I went away and the RKE was dead when I got back, I am wondering if thunderstorms which we are having a lot of here in Maryland could have done it.

The instructions I have say to cycle the ignition FIVE times within 10 seconds, ending with the ignition in the RUN position. At that point, the doors should lock and unlock, then hit one button on EACH transmitter. The doors should lock and unlock after pressing each button. Turn the ignition off, and the doors should lock and unlock again, confirming programming has taken place. If that doesn't work, I guess it's time to call in the experts.

Mohawk Man: Had this problem once on a GM car. Try taking a pencil eraser and "buff" the battery contacts inside the remote and also "buff" the batteries where they make contact. I have seen where just the oil from our skin can be enough to interrupt the contact. Humor me and try it.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it but it did not help. I think the problem is in the receiver, not the remotes but it was worth a shot.
Anybody know where the receiver is? Anybody have any good links or diagrams of how this thing is wired in? I have the Haynes manual but that is not much help.

I made a Word document on location of the module from my Ford manual. If you send me an email I will send it to you, I can't attach to FTE email. Normally I would just post it but since it has information about the alarm system I don't think its a good idea. Email is in the profile.

Just as an FYI, I once had the keyless entry on our truck die when it was parked next to a light pole with a big sodium vapor light and large transformer on it. RF interference is always something to be considered.
We encountered the problem at dusk, but it went away later at night. Perhaps the light was throwing a lot of RF off while it warmed up?
