Outside Temp

Ok, I found what I want, but what do you call it, and where can I get it? I was looking for the overhead console with outside temp, but it doesn't exist for the sunroof. I might be able to find one on a salvage Expy. What body style was this available in?

I have an 02 with sunroof and overhead trip computer and the outside temp is not displayed on the overhead console but it is displayed on the auto climate control in the dash.

I found one here, but it doesn't have a part number. Anyone know the part number for this?

It sounds like you are trying to change your overhead so that it will display temperature in addition to existing trip functions, but the parts listed in your link are for both a manual climate and an Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) units not the Information Center overhead display module with compass and temperature display from later model Expdy. Before you go start searching for something that is likely to cost $150-$300 for an EATC control head, you do realize that unless your vehicle already has an EATC, you can not simply swap the two controlers. The instrument panel wiring harness is wired differently depending on whether you have manual or EATC controllers (3 connectors versus 4 for EATC). Also, the EATC uses an automatic blend door acutator motor which an Expdy with manual climate control does not have!

I have a 99' XLT without the information center but I have acquired all the requried parts so that I can eventually add the overhead trip computer to my console. For this reason I have done a little bit of research on the subject so forgive me for asking, but exactly what is it you want to accomplish? I think it would help if you could offer a little bit more detail.

What I wanted to accomplish was a swap of overhead display to allow outside temp readings. Since I found out there is no display for the Expy to accomplish this, I am going to swap out my manual air control to the Automatic Temp Control. This will allow me to use the outside temperature feature, along with a few other upgraded benefits. I figured I can add the Ambient temp sensor, In-car temp sensor, Sunload sensor, and Temp control switch to accomplish the swap. I f you say the wiring harness is different, this may pose a new problem for me, but one that can be solved with the right harness.

Based on my research for 99' and newer XLT/EB's, yes, the swap can be accomplished by changing the instrument panel wiring harness - $1,500 from a Ford dealer - or modifying your existing wiring harness by using wires from a donor harness - $150-300 from a salvage yard. I can not say for sure if this will work in a 98' though because I do not know what model year that EATC became available. Before you begin investing in parts, you might want to get yourself a Ford Service DVD that covers the model years in question. That is where I began the research process for adding an Information Center to the overhead in my 99' - I made a $25 donation to the people that maintain the website at http://flatratetech.com and in return I was sent a factory DVD that covers all Ford/Lincoln vehicles between 96' and early year 2003!
