Raise the front or lower the back?

So as some of you may know, I bought my first vehicle last October, a '99 F-250 with a 6.8 V10. I later found out (AFTER hauling a big load of rocks in a dump trailer) that one of the bottom leaf springs was broken. So this winter I have been thinking on what I want to do about it when it warms up. This is pretty much on top of the "to do" list for my truck. I did make a thread about putting 1 ton springs under it, but I think I'll just stick with the regular 3/4 ton springs. So now this is where I have another question, and I think this pic will tell some of it:

Now I'm not sure if those rear springs are stock, but that rear end is way the heck up there! The truck itself is not level, the front looks to be correct height, but not the back. A buddy at school and I were talking about a leveling kit for the front. But the more I look at it, I think the rear end should come down. I don't want to get bigger tires, as I just put brand new Transforce AT's on the back and plan to put new ones on the front in the near future.

Another question of mine is, would this have been a truck ordered just for pulling a camper? It has holes for a fifth wheel hitch in the bed, the rear end sits high, and it didn't come with a tow package. The PO told me that he put the receiver hitch on it.

What are your guys opinions. I'm on a fairly tight budget, and I'm fixing up stuff on it one thing at a time. Springs just happen to be next on the list.

What size block is in the rear? If it is a "tall"(4" block) you could always put a 2" block in and reduce your rake.

99's sat really high in the back. When the SD's first came out I had family that couldn't tow their goosenecks at the factory height. Since you dont want large tires, I would for sure replace the rear block with a shorter one. You could get one off of a 00-04 F250 and grab the rear springs at the same time maybe.....you may want to get the ubolts too.....

from the looks of it i say lower the rear
i think it might look funny with the font raised with the wheel tire combo your running

also easier to load things in the bed if not to hi and i think they often drive better at closer to stock height

Not to throw this off topic but. Keng, I still have those Michelins. Here are some pictures for you. If you are still interested, let me know.

I had the front coil springs wear out on two of my last trucks, check the clearance by the front stop bumpers. It did not make the back of the truck stick up like that though, but my trucks are always loaded down with a work top. Does your truck have leafs on the front?

I like the rake... If you level it out, and then put something heavy in the bed, then you'll be sagging lower than the front. The saggy rear look is what bothers me the most.

Lower the rear on a 4x4??!?

Gag me with a spoon!

Yea papaw, lower the front 6" and the rear 12, then put some airbags so the drivers side will kneel for you and it will be an easy step in and out...

The back doesn't look bad with those tires. Put a spring pack under the front to level it, when your tires wear out, replace with bigger

If it was a 2wd or a Prius, I'd say lower it.....but don't disgrace that 4x4 super duty by lowering the rear......sell it and buy a Chevy..... Those things sit half an inch off the ground

They are correct early superdutys had 4 inch rear blocks had a heavy rake . they corrected it and used the factory 2 inch block a few yrs later. I'd raise the front my self . They look better. And you can still tow or haul and it will sit level when doing so.

I would leave it the way it is. You'll be much better off when you need to tow or haul something heavy. A truck that sits level when empty is going to squat in the rear under a load.

I would like to clear up the fact that I don't want it level. I like the rear higher than the front, just not as much as it is. I'd like to lower it an inch or two, not totally take the block out! I'm 5'6", kinda short, and loading heavy stuff in the back could be a bit easier. And the fact that I will be replacing the springs has me wondering about what I should do about the ride height. I found this pic on google (and mighty fine lookin' truck at that!) and I see that the front is roughly the same height, but the rear has been leveled a bit, it's not near as high as mine. THAT's the look I would like. Not a Chevy a half inch off the ground, but not a monster truck either.

A happy medium is what I would call it.

Doesn't look that bad. Like my 350 with my plow on and nothing in the bed.
