I posted this in the small block forum, but got no answers, and realized that no one ever replies to the lower forums, so maybe you guys can help me.
Well, I thought I had a leaky dizzy o-ring, but it turns out I'm leaking between the intake and block, at the rate of a quart every 100 miles. So I am gonna go get an intake gasket set (print-o-seal, of course) and a tube of permatex RTV. Could someone give me a better idea as to the procedures? Torque specs would be nice too. Its a 72 f-100 302, no emmisions, so all I have to take off are the distributor and fuel lines. I know that less is more when it comes to RTV, but i need some pointers. Thanks fellas!
Just a thought but have you thought about mabey just retorqueing your intake and mabey it'll seal up on its own? Or even just do it to see if its at specs. 17-25 ft-lb's
Naw, the old gasket stuff crumbled when I pressure washed it. I did retorque them first, and drove 5 miles to my dads house, and it had already formed a pool of oil in the top of the timing chain cover. I'm not afraid to change it out, I just dont want to have to do it again. Any other things I should do while I have the intake off?
Buy an aluminum intake for it! Always a smart purchase mabey a shop manual from the onsite store Motorhaven too so you can have all the info at your fingers in the garage. And make sure all your coolant is drained out and the - battery cable is disconnected.Check back If you run into any problems or even pull up my profile and send me an email. Always ready to give a hand especially when it can't get dirty over the computer. LOL. Bright side is you don't have the giant Fe 360 boat anchor intake on top of your engine.
