2017 Super Duty Design

To simplify my question I'll stick with the f-350.
When ordering a new truck, how do I make sure I will get the 4 leaf and the overload vs. the 3 leaf and overload?
While I'm asking, what are the differences and capacities of the two?
Thanks.

This has been discussed and not answered even by the engineers and sales people here. I discussed it with my salesgirl (fleet sales mgr), dealership sales manager and numerous responses and it seems no one knows except some spring-god deep in the bowels of the KTP. Snow plow, camper, towing, 4wd, crew cab, short cab all seem to have one or the other with no consistent parameters. If you find out, please let us know. Since I use a slide in camper I push the payload and attempts to determine in advance the spring design have failed. Maybe it is up to the line to figure which ones. Tired today, only going to put on 3 leaves. I had Wheaties for breakfast. I'll do four.

There is a reason for making them so tall! It's the same reason why the hood lines have gotten higher and the front valances are so low. Everything is done to not only make these trucks physically larger, but more imposing. Buyers equate toughness with size and the truck market has been doing this for decades.
I owned a 2015 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew and traded that in for a 2016 F-250 CCSB. Given that the cab on the new Super Duty is basically the same as the F-150, I can tell you that it has less room than the outgoing Super Duty for the driver in most areas. Although there is more head room in general. This is especially evident on models with a moon roof.
Indeed. Most areas are smaller. Although there is considerably more rear passenger leg room if you care about that sort of thing. The passenger side of the cab in the new Super Duty has a different dash. I also have no idea what the firewall looks like. There isn't very much leg room on the 2011-2016 trucks in the foot well area on that side. There is definitely more leg room on the 2015+ F-150's. I do not know if the 2017 Super Duty suffers from the same lack of room my 2016 has.
Absolutely.
I do have a question for the Ford Engineers though:
The seat cooling design for the 2015+ F-150's is horrible. This is due to the TED not having a proper exhaust and intake setup. There is a TSB that adds an intake "sock", but the seat back essentially suffers from heat soak and doesn't cool very well. Numerous complaints are out there on forums concerning this issue on the 2015+ F-150's. Additionally, the seat leather is of lower quality than that of the outgoing Super Duty trucks and it tends to bunch up around the edges and seams. My question is this: Have any changes been made to the 2017 Super Duty seats, or are they simply a direct carry over from the 2015-2017 F-150?
One of the things I noticed when I test drove the 2016 Super Duty was that it's older seat design was not only more comfortable, but that the seats cooled far better than they did in my F-150, despite being a newer design. If Ford hasn't done anything to address the seat issues from the F-150, I think it's foolish to use that same design in the new Super Duty beyond the obvious logistics advantages.
Absolutely.

I could care less how "tough" it looks. I want a truck that is high quality, will last a long time, do what I want it too AND will fit in my garage.

I'm not disagreeing with you. You said; "There is no need in making them so tall." I'm telling you that there is a reason and what that reason is. It's all about sales and marketing. Most people don't care if the truck fits in their garage or not. Most people seem to hoard their garages out to the point where their vehicles do not fit. I live in an area where hail is prevalent, yet I see most houses in my neighborhood with one or more cars parked outside. Almost anytime you see a garage open it's full of bull**** they haven't used in half a decade or more.

I have a 2017 250 KR, crew cab, 6 3/4 box, gasser on order with 275/65/20 tires and Roof Marker/ Clearance Lamps. Specs show height @ 81.5 + 1" (20"wheels)=82.5". I have 83" door clearance, are the marker lamps included in the 81.5" spec? If not what is height with roof lamps?

The 2017 6.7 Diesel engine is de-rated in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gears while taking off from a stand still. I have 2 questions:
1. What are the hp/torque #'s while under this de-rated status?
2. When towing up a steep grade and your truck downshifts from 4th into 3rd does the 6.7 diesel still give you the rated hp/torque 440/925 or does that # decrease as it does on take off in gears 1,2,& 3??

Has Ford done any high altitude towing with the '17's engine? Seems like '15-16 model owners like myself are having issues with excessive soot buildup in the DPF while towing in high altitude areas.

Many would still like to know why the GVWR/payload was unchanged for the 2017 F350 SRW with all of the structural improvements - especially given the Ram 3500 SRW's 800# greater rating (11,500 for the Ford and 12,300 for the Ram). More importantly, will it increase soon???
