I want larger mirrors, not west coast.

I've seen people mount type 8 mirror HEADS on type 9 brackets. Another option is the "extend-a-mirror" sliding bar for the type 9.
I suppose if I were to do something like the bigeffin' heads on the type 9 brackets like the photo in post #11, I would put a spreader plate on the inside of the door spanning the two lower holes, and another one spanning the two upper holes. That should keep the weight of the mirror head from tearing at the sheet metal.

There are actually several different Type 9 mirrors. Some are "single position", some are "dual position" and have the arm that swings out, some have two screws top and bottom and some have three, some have squared heads and some have rounded heads.
I bought NOS dual position ones with 3 holes top and bottom to replace the dual position/2-holers that were on it from the factory. You can see them here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post13764550. My hope is that 3-hole mounts will be more substantial due to the extra surface area as well as number of fasteners. Plus, I intend to reinforce the mounts inside the door.

Too big, look goofy to me. And a huge blind spot. Not to mention, my trucks see a lot of time in the woods and I know these huge mirrors will just be ripped off by a tree in a quick fashion.
I prefer the stock mirror look, I'll be hunting down some black stock size mirrors.

The OEM towing package mirrors are a little on the bulky side, but the view is ~awesome. Never had a vehicle that I could see as well out of as I can with these. They are tall, the convex mirror is big enough to use, and you can see everything at a glance. Don't have to bob your head around to get the rear view coverage you need. I would consider looking in a junkyard for these over aftermarket west coast mirrors. Good ones are not cheap!

I ordered two of the number 186 - Mini Combination Head and Gooseneck converts small OEM heads to safety combination heads from a local company.

IMHO, I don't like the factory towing mirrors, they DO work well, but they hang out so far, and since the are lower on the door, I have had 2 sets bent. 1 set was in a parking lot, some #$%#%...(umm, kind other driver?) Ripped my mirror off when they left, bent the arms and dented my door. The other set was backing a trailer down the driveway...don't ask! lol Those Retrac West Coast Jr's I posted are my favorite mirror bar none. They cost, but they are worth it, since they can be brought inside the frame when you are not towing. I will try to get a pic of them on my bumpside this afternoon to post.
Cheers!

Dude, I think 184, or 144 are exactly what the OP is looking for...if not they are REALLY close.

Dave/Andy OOPS! I looked back to check, must not have checked very well! lol
Dave, if you call the phone number on the left side, they will tell you who the nearest dealer is. In Western Washington it is a company called 6 Roblees. The folks at Retrac are pleasant to talk to and will look it up for you.
Cheers!
