I have a 88 F250 with an IDI and a ZF5. I have a line on a 03 EVan with a 7.3 and automatic. Im no stranger to engine swaps or mechanical work. As far as electrics, is it possible to so the swap with a donor truck? does the ECM use and security for say the key? Could I use the ZF5 on the powerstroke? Im mostly worried about how possible it is to get running with all the electrics compared the the IDI
not sure what you are asking.
do you want to put the IDI in the van, or do you want to put the powerstroke in the 88?
the IDI in the van will work, but you will have to get fancy with sensors to get the gauges to work, the powerstroke into the 88 will also work, but you will have to rewire the truck to get the computer to work and the engine running properly.
either way, yes you can use the ZF5 speed on the powerstroke, but you will have to get a different flywheel because the powerstroke and IDI are different.

Worst case I'd say you may have to get manual tranny ecm as the unit will probably be wondering why the engine and truck are driving without tranny input/output signals. Try the swap first and if the orig ecm has pribs then swap with manual ecm. Get wiring diagram and compare ALL connections between the auto and manual ecm. Remove/add appropriate wires.
altho this thread is damn near a year old.
this is do-able, but I would highly advise a OBS dash swap,
then a powerstroke dash, makes everything plug and play, and a lot easier.
