89 7.3 surges/smokes when started
hello i have a 89 f250 4x4 with a 7.3 and a e4od trans.when i start it in the morning it surges untill it warms up and smokes a lot. the smoke is white not the usual black desiel smoke. any help? thanks

Seems to be air getting into the fuel system or the fuel is running back from the pump. Does it miss when it starts ? and then seems to straighten out ?
Could also be some glow plugs taking a crap on you . But the surging part makes me lean more toward air in the system.

i have the same problem with my 94 7.3 turbo. sometimes it smokes and stutters and sometimes it doesn't. once i put it in gear and take off it quits. this is my first diesel so i dont know alot. only had it 2 months.
