Sounds like the guy at the dealership doesn't know much about these trucks, or was blowing sunshine up your rear-end.

That's what I'm thinking. Also, on the way into work this morning I decided to get on it a little bit and I am definitely getting black smoke during rapid acceleration. It runs great, but I am worried about the engine longevity as I plan on keeping it a long time.

With all the emission sensors included, I'm surprised it's not throwing a code. Does the Check Engine light work? If "Certified Used" includes a warranty, ya better bring it back before it runs out. As stated previously, even under load there is no black smoke out the tailpipe.

I have never gotten mine to blow black smoke, ever. Even with my 12,500lb toy hauler going up a 9% grade I cant get black smoke out of the truck(I have tried, wait for turbo to spool down then punch it). If you are seeing black smoke you have 1 of 2 things happening.

Option 1: Your truck has a broken DPF, why its not setting codes no-one knows.

Option 2: Your truck is deleted, and has a hollowed out DPF. Seems unlikely being certified pre-owned but it is entirely possible.

I'm hoping its option 2. The question is, how do I figure that out?

That is a good question. Have you ever driven a *stock* 6.7? The shifting would almost certainly be different on a deleted truck, and the engine power may be turned up as well. So you would be able to tell from a seat of the pants perspective hopefully.

Other than that, unless the truck came with a tuner I am not sure how you would tell, that is a good question for those around here with more deleting experience than me.

I have driven my brothers 2013 and can tell a little difference in the power. The main place that I can tell is in the shifting, which mine feels more like a muscle car than stock. It didn't come with a tuner unless it's hidden very well.

In case you haven't done this, not to sound like a douche, but pop the hood, pull the air filter, that negative pressure air guage tied into the intake down stream of the air box is a cheap item, and they fail. A buddy had issues with his '11 and black smoke, all else was fine, just black smoke and dirty tips. That guage stuck, filter was dirty big time.

Perhaps the truck could have the dpf system turned off from the previous owner. Which would explain the soot. As I have overy 100,000km on my truck (dpf system intact) and no soot at all. Though it my be highly unlikely if it was "certified" because I'm sure ford would have seen another tune stored on the ecu when they would have hooked there computer to it on first inspection.
