Got a 95 f150 e4od 4x4. I've replaced the u joints, and I recently rebuilt the rear axle. The best I could get for ring gear backlash was 11 thousandths. I've also just replaced the rear springs, bushings, shackles, bolts, everything. When I'm in 4x4, it's nothe as bad. Is this a transmission issue? My truck supposedly has a rebuilt transmission. I had the fluid flushed and new filter on but still does it. What's next??
I'm thinking it's a pressure problem with my transmission. My roommate has the same trans in his e-250 and his shifts fine from D to R. Sometimes there's a 2 second delay. One time it killed the engine. Please help someone! I don't want it getting worse.
You mean when you shift from park to reverse? Mine bangs sometimes but not always. Sometimes you can't even feel it shift it goes so smoothly. Most of the time you can feel it but nothing bad but sometimes its more of a bang (not super bad) but not what I'd call normal. Thankfully that only happens like once a month if that
I read somewhere to clean the Icv. I took mine out and it was full of crud. I cleaned mine out completely and cleaned the terminals. Believe it or not, it shifits smoother without any change in rpm. But there's still a delay. 4 outta 5 times there's no clunk but when the weight of the vehicle goes backwards or fowards, hit clunks everytime. I plan on regearing front and rear for my 33's so I'll replace both carriers at the same time. I bet it's the carrier, because I didn't replace anything but bearings and crush sleeve and seals. Would spider gears play make the sound?
Ok. Had a helper shift for me while I inspected things underneath. Looks as if the transmission jerks the engine, and transfer case, and takes that shock to the rear end which makes a quick metal to metal sound but everything seems tight. there really isn't any slopp but the 1/16th turn of the pinion. I can feel it in the entire truck.
Everybody is different but to me it's just an old truck going into gear. I guess it depends on the definition of ''loud'' clunk. If i'm on a slight hill mine clunks/bangs when coming out of park before it even hits reverse. Again, to me it's just an old truck thing I don't don't think a 2nd thought about it.
Guess I didn't realize that I do park on a hill going up hill. Lol in Colorado it's either up or down ha. But I still want to look into pressure issues cause it does take a few seconds even when it's all warmed up
