New guy from Austin here
So here's a little background: A friend of mine has a farm and they decided to sell it recently so now they have to clean it out. I've been to this farm once many years ago and I remembered there being an old Ford truck sitting there. At the time I joked that I would have that truck one day and we all had a good laugh about it... but that day has finally come. I received the keys a few days back and saw the truck, and they want it gone by next week.
From my limited knowledge, here's what I know about the truck:
1984 Ford F-150, "Base" trim
Longbed
2 Fuel tanks
Carbureted straight 6, making it the 4.9L 300?
Auto tranny
Body is straight, I think the paint used to be a navy blue with a lighter blue in the middle
Interior is pristine
Frame rails look good, other stuff not so much, but I know you guys have seen worse
My goal is to bring this truck back to SAFE driving condition. I do know the basics, but I am not too handy under the hood. I plan to learn from working on this truck and I know I can rely on you guys for advice

Without further ado, here are some pictures:

Y'all chime and and tell me what I'm looking at. I know it is missing some parts, most notably the battery. Concerns, input, advice... lay it on me.

Missing something?:

The wire in the center of the picture is sitting on top of the header with nothing plugged in at the end:

Dryer duct coming from under the intake:

All feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

You are "missing" the DuraSpark ignition module.
It is held in place through the three holes in the plastic fender.
So, I assume that you would need to get bolts/washers when you pick up a module.
Austin is beautiful!
Whereabouts are you?
Something missing? Ignition control box gets plugged into them.

Wire sitting on header in center of picture? Ok 1 it is not a wire it is a hose. 2 it is sitting on the head. A header also known as an exh. Manifold is on the other side of the head and what the exh gases goes out of the head thru. That hose goes to the air filter housing just above it where the hole is.

Dryer duct coming from intake. It is not coming from the intake but from a tin on the exh manifold. This brings warm air into the airfilter when the motor is cold to help drivability and keep the carb from icing. It should be hooked up to the bottom of the air filter horn, the long part.

How long has the truck been sitting? This way we can help guide you on getting it running again.
And welcome to the fourm
Dave ----
The truck overall looks in pretty good shape. Congrats on a good find.
Dave, I think he may have been talking about this:
Also IIRC the kinda-oval-shaped two-wire connector is for an optional tachometer.

Bottom-left corner (above the spark plug wire) of this picture below, that hose looks like the PCV system air intake:

And should be attached to the air cleaner assembly in the rogue hole in it shown here:

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I see offhand.

I would have thought it was old enough to be DSII, but can't see the distributor pic clear enough on my phone to tell if it has TFI on the side.
Sorry for giving bad information.

Could be, we'll ping him @JimsRebel too and see if he responds.
Oh, BTW, welcome to FTE, Pat.
The distributor cap is held down by screws, not clips. It looks like a cross between a typical EEC-IV (TFI) and a DSII distributer cap. I also don't see a vacuum advancd cannister on it.
I would ( before even putting tires on it), spray a little WD40 into each spark plug hole, and gently try to turn the engine over by hand using a wrench. If it turns, then get a battery and see if she fires up.
