Most guys run a 235/75R15. Either a P-metric XL or a LT metric. 30x9.50r15lt is a little taller yet. 31x10.50 is popular. (That's what I run) and I've seen as big as 32x11.50 on a stock 2wd.
If you are considering buying new wheels, I highly recommend buying 16" diameter. There are SOO many more tire choices.

And the 16's will give a little more fuel mileage too!
You already have 16" wheels? On an F-100? Not from the factory. Well, if you already have them, then a 235-245/75R16 is a great fit. A little fatter go with a 255-265/70R16.
