95 explorer grinding

I have a 95 Explorer that I though was the brake pads needing to be replaced. I can hear grinding when slowing and turning. I am leaning towards the wheel assembly needing to be replaced.. Found them on rock auto for $50 might try it.. Anyone have any thought on the matter?

Wheel assembly, or hub/bearing assembly? Based on our description I suspect you are referring the the bearing being bad, which is part of the hub assembly.

Have you jacked up the wheels to get the load off of them and checked the bearings for looseness?

Yep done that no tilt and no slack when grabbing the tires and checking. The only thing I can think of is that the bearings are going just not gone yet.. Going to try and replace to see if it helps..
