Budget permitting, I think I would just look for a set of pickup fenders, the r/h one is pretty buggered up anyway. Unless you plan to run some tall tires

This is one of the only 1 ton Mercury pickups I have seen pictures of. Being a restorer type of guy I am a bit bummed you are changing it so drastically.

GB, that tall oil fill was a Canadian flathead thing. If you end up getting parts you might get the intake too. That rear oil fill is annoying at best...

I am not so much of a restorer type of guy, but I certainly am a tonner type of guy. If I ever get a tattoo it will be of a 7.50 x 17 on a multi piece 5 on 6 7/8 ford tonner wheel. Big dillema is will it have a ford script hubcap or will we get to see the hub of the full floating axle? I am also a huge fan of letting everyone enjoy old vehicles in the manner that they prefer. If I ever have a hot rod it will be inspired by Willowbilly's RPU. I love that thing.

Thanks GB. I'm somewhere in between. Not really a restorer but do like to see them get restored. I guess I just like to drag old hulks home, get them running or make something from what's left of one. The styling has to strike me, like my 40 or my 56 Caddy. A Merc is very high on my desirable list and a tonner merc would be the best.

I've seen pics of that around quite a bit lately. It is very cool but I would feel silly driving it around.

Wow, nice Mustang!! My favorite year and a fastback!! Love fastbacks, coupes and convertibles don't do it for me.
Depending on where you live, that truck in stock form might not get it. Where I live, you need to have something that can cruise at least 60 comfortably if you plan to get any use from it.

The stock truck will be slow and stiff, no doubt. There are some things that can be done to help it be less slow and less stiff, but modern comfort and speed only comes with lots of modifications. I respect that. It is definitely your truck and you should enjoy it.

Cool truck. My dad and I are restoring his '47 Merc 1/2 ton, we have a lot of extra parts if you need, including a whole whack of 1 ton front fenders.
I'm in AB too.

Engine code: 6J-7654 (on trans and data plate)
Trim: M-18001-J
Paint: M-1722
Serial# 412H47-83*** (on frame and data plate).

Questions i now have:
It seems i have a 8X6.5 bolt pattern, what does this mean? 1/1/2 ton?

It seems to have all the parts for the engine, rad, shroud, fan, generator, heads. Does any of this stuff have any valve?

Very, very nice! Look at that sheet metal! The 8 on 6.5 look like from a later F2 or F3. 3/4 or one ton. That means the axles too. Looks like they might be the dreaded widowmaker wheels. 17"? But maybe I see a lock ring. The running gear not much value. I just visited a flathead builder who does tons of v8s and he gives 200 for an 8ba block that tests good. Nothing if there are cracks. Most guys do what you are doing and the ford purists with $ for a resto like the '32-'36 vehicles, pickups and cars. For those that do like the big truck gear, shipping is the big killer and of course it's all heavy too. That is beautiful example of a tonner express. You are lucky to have purchased it. Once you start to rod this thing I will have to avert my eyes. Just do it, finish it and drive the heck out of it, and most of all, have fun while doing it. Dang, that's a beauty..... Edit, sure looks like a lock ring. And 7.50x17. Chevy wheels? , but that merc cap fits. We need Stu for this one!
