Well I decided to drop the truck at a local independent diesel shop. They inspected the front end based on the gremlins I was having, and found the driver side hub was shot...needle bearing was toast, causing that sides shaft to lock in even when the locking hub was unlocked. They also found the lower ball joint was bad. They believe both sides u-joints are fine.
So rather than me throwing money at it, they are only replacing what is bad....a hub and ball joints on the DS. Waiting on the quote now.

If it is just the needle bearing and not the hub then you can just replace it, NAPA sells a replacement, if I wasn't on my phone I would try and find the right part number, a quick search should point you in the right direction. It may even be listed in guzzles how to?
