Ignition replacement

How do you replace the key ignition if you do not have a key? All the forums and videos on You Tube say to move the key to RUN and push the button to get it out. I do not want to destroy the column.

Several years ago, I replaced one on a late-70s Ford car. I took a drill, some new, sharp drill bits and over the course of several hours, drilled out all the pieces that needed to be removed.

So I went to one of the local pick a parts today and picked up a air filter box and related hoses. I found a random key in a Explorer and it did not fit that vehicle so I liberated it with the hopes of it working for me. SCORE!!! It was worn out just enough that it fit the ignition in the truck along with the new ignition as well! Can't believe the luck of that! Now I will go back tomorrow and get windshield trim and the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. It is an upgraded type with the spring clip and it is not leaking.
