How many miles??
HI:
I have a 1993 3.0 Ford Aerostar. I was pulling a U-Haul trailer from Atlanta to Newport, RI. About 200 miles out of Atlanta the engine was over heating (3 years ago in the summer) I had the radiator replaced with a 4.0 Ltr (Autozone $160.00) in Greenville. Engine ran cool after that. Going up hills the transmision over heated (burnt up all the fluid several times causing the car to stop). I filled the transmission up with oil and go on. The smoke from thr transmision would fog up the whoe road behind me. Than I would stop and pour more transimisson fluid in. After the trip to RI I returned to Atlanta without any more problembs (trailer emty).
On returning to Atlanta I had the fluid and screen changed. When I started this trip the Aerostar had 135000 miles on it.
Now 3 years later I have 175000. I would go anywhere with this Ford Aerostar without a second thought.
One thing I did 2 years ago is I removed the engine driven cooling fan and got a electric fan from a old Pontiac in the junk yard ($15.00).
This HiTech Mod will let your 3.0 keep leave a 4.0.
If I could buy a new 2006 Aerostar I would do it today.
I have a new FX35 in my garage. My Aerostar rides beter and gets 20-25
miles per gallon. Put that in your pipe GM drivers!!!!!!!

Irish, you can actually go full syn really when you want tobut I did after the second oil change. I would run dino in it until I felt that it was broken in good. I went to syn at 5,000 miles, changing like this. First change at 1,500, second at 3,000, then syn at 5,000. I then change it at 5,000 mile intervals, using Mobile One and either a Mobile One or Motorcraft filter. I do not use any other type of filters. The old bull has 125,000 on it now. Just had a comp check done. It is still at 95% of factory specs. At this pont, I may see 250,000 easy.

Not to hijack the thread, but I just put the third set of tires on the Taurus and changed the oil (5K). It's butt is starting to sag a little, but surprising, the oild was a little dirty, but clear. I cut the filter open this time. There was no trash.
I learned something yesterday, but have not confirmed it yet. I was told that Goodyear makes Kelly tires. Can anyone confirm this?

You are right - the oil we buy today is much better than older oil, but with the Lucas oil stabilizer I now do my oil changes at about 5000 to 5500 miles instead of 3500. With the stabilizer, I have less oil loss between changes and I like the added "dry start" protection. I feel it isn't a waste of $, but that's my $.02 ...

I started to get a misfire and it would only happen when warm and got
worse and worse, started to happen when cold and after 5 miles was about
undriveable, I checked the codes and no error messages so I replaced
the plugs and wires and cap and rotor and ignition module, and had the same
problem, Turned it into the shop and they diagnosed it with bad head gaskets
so I am doing that now pulling the heads and will get the heads worked
and see what happens, It has Been great motor nothing replaced in 300k but the alternator.
