It will be high.
As an example, my 302 with flat top pistons and 58cc heads is 9.5/1. It originally had dished pistons.
If your pistons are flat tops, it will even higher than mine.
The intake could be ported so it's not a total loss but why aren't you fitting headers?
Noise mainly, headers are much louder than stock manifolds..
Not going for horsepower but if i can gain some torque without spending too much money,,,
TFS 170's are $1000/pr and i'm just not sure that heads are worth the expense if valve lift is at or under .500"
The paint job happens first week of April then I'll start pouring money in the engine, all i really wanted to do was change the cam but if i found some good heads for the right price,,, the price is right but like you said the 180's are a poor choice for my application and 170's are just not worth the expense, not for me anyways..
To be honest the engine really doesn't need a thing and runs fantastic but it's hard to get that hot rodding out of your blood

Depends on the rest of the exhaust, when I first put headers on my '90 I had a complete diesel catback on it with that massive oildrum muffler and the exhaust sound was pretty much dead silent like a stock exhaust. With that system you could hear the faint putt-putt-putt noise that headers are known for but once I put a different muffler on it that characteristic header noise was less obvious.

Just do the cam then, there is untapped HP and torque in the stock heads even, the cams to use are the Comp 35-255-5 or my favorite the Crane 444232 with 1.7 rockers. With that done you can add heads or headers at a later date and get all the benefits whereas heads on a motor with the stock cam won't be that impressive.

I have real nice audio system in my van and engine noise or header tick is very unwelcome inside the cabin, that's the main reason i like the stock manifolds..
If i was going to replace the heads i would do it when i pull the intake manifold to change the cam so the stock heads are most likely staying put..
