After I sanded down the high spots, I put the HVAC insulation on. Not pretty but it fit the bill. Afterwards, I lightly sanded the surface, prepped it with an acetone wipe down and it's ready for the covering.
Doesn't look like much yet
I did this last night so I'm going to tackle the compound curves of the hump today. Wish me luck!
Here it is all done except tucking the edges. I used the 3M 90 adhesive. Worked good but I used practically the entire can. The can says it will cover 65 sq. ft.? Dunno 'bout that! But I'm happy. I made my own firewall cover for approx. $48 and I like the way it looks.
My camera is busted so these pics from my dino flip phone ain't so hot.

Hey Teach. Sorry I just saw your question here. It's a prefab. Cost me $200. Guy across the way has one and it has lasted 4 years now and it looks almost as good as mine.. After it snows I just go out and push from the inside and I build up my side insulation!

GRILL INSERTS
Still need a new camera but here are a couple things I have done recent
The first time I tried to paint the grills I got this Top of the heap plastic paint. Now I consider myself rather adroit at using rattle cans. I shake them for at least 3 minutes before first using and I control my humidity and temp. Well that crap came out like when a 2 year old sneezes with a bad cold. Spittle and strings. This time with some good stuff I trust, they came out good except for the facing surfaces. Need to sand them and hit them one more time.
First wing window done
Here's my second shot at painting the inserts. I'm thinking about painting the facing edges "chrome" but I'm going to wait until I try them out in the finished grill.

Looks good Rich, and nice trick with the warm water... I will use it if we ever get a cool day in Baja... ha ha ha... I noticed that your A/C does not impede your Xfer case shifting... mine is a "Frig King", after market dealer installed, and I cannot shift into 4x4 low range, at least not until I bend the shift lever a bit... so far, have not needed low range, but someday... when I need it, I may be sorry if I have procrastinated more... Its on the "To Do" list...

Hmm Russ, I've had to bend the shift stick when first installing a old AC dash unit that a friend gave me when working for Kaiser Steel Iron ore mine where the summer time had gotten up to 126* a few times and as low as 16* an once it even snowed a few inches.
Any way the old stock shift lever hit the dash unit an got the old torch out an reshaped it..
Well the dash unit was for a truck with an auto trans plus hit my wiper motor so had to move the blower motor some.
Any doing all the it would freeze up after about an hrs time when the day time temp was up around 110*+.
Well about 3 yrs later, I moved to a much cooler place to live an the compressor clutch bearing was going out and that when, I removed the whole AC
System dash unit also.
After a few yrs past, A guy I knew sold stuff at the Flea-market/ swap meet gave me a AC dash unit that fit my dash an cleared all but the shift lever stick.
Yup had to bend it again. This was when going to the Sanden unit an using the double barrier ac hoses using the newer ester oil so I could switch over to r134
if an when the time came that I could not fit any r12:
Oh me oh my this has gotten longer then what, I what, I thought it would now the time comes to change trannys over to a over drive.
I have also had to bent the TF shift lever stick cause it would hit the seat or the tranny stick..
Russ, I've felt your pain many times over..
That's my story.
