Years gone by I didn't think I'd ever say that, but I agree.
I forgot to ad Ted Nugent and also him in Damn Yankees. Awesome.

Saddle Tank & Bed Removal

Hey guys I took the last 4 weeks off from the project to get some home projects done. I also had my computer in for repair ( broke the screen and keyboard ) so I couldn't post what I did get done. I pulled the tank sending unit and it was pretty depressing...

The tank had about 5 gallons of gas that had to be at least 8 y.o.

Rust and gunk.

Yikes!! What would eat through the float like this?

I figure I'm going to need a new sending unit.

Some pics inside the tank.

Rust and sludge

Any ideas or knowledge on how to clean the tank out?

That is a keeper for sending unit! I mean I do not see how that float doesn't get reused?! Man not sure you can even salvage that tank. Never seen one that bad before.

i would not mess with that old tank if at all possible.. by the time you tumble it to shake the rust loose you will knock a hole thru the thin as tin foil old tank... and if by chance you did get it kinda clean it would forever be clogging filters and carbs..

would be best to find either a new tank or one not so bad off...

22X on the new tank, or at least, a good clean used one... do not fight that battle, pick a win able one if you need a fight... Must have been lots of water in the tank, with the gas floating on top...

I'd go with a new tank! I put pea gravel in **** tank and strapped it in the back of my F250 for two weeks while I drove the job site. Rinsed it out and it was pretty shiney.

For a new tank research a supplier for Spectra Premium part number F25A.
Note that it won't have a nipple for an evaporative emissions hose though if yours does.

F25A

Comments

60 in. x 14 in. x 13-1/2 in.
Lock Ring Kit Included
22.5 Gallons Tank
Side Mount
w/o E.E.C. (Evaporative Emission Control)

The tank sender for 1970 after ser #H70,001 through 1972 was originally part number D0TZ9275D. This came with a 5/16"--3/8" adaptor hose. That was replaced by D7TZ9275B. Which doesn't come with the adaptor hose.
Nos Parts Source *Fo Has the D0TZ9275D.

913.220.5746

Green Sales has both part numbers.
