Thanks. My goal is to have a set of wheels, just like the OP's, on it some day.

ATX SERIES - MOJAVE II - SATIN BLACK 17X8 wheels, actually offroad wheels, with Uniroyal Laredo radials; objective was to maintain 31" wheel/tire height despite changing to 5X4.5 (or, 5x114.3 as we say here in Canada). Not the best pics - but I like the look on the truck, and the price was WAY better than my original plan of going with smoothies.

Hi Dave,
What size rubber is that and what modifications to ride height. I realize it's the larger/ taller m68 but that looks real good.
Thanks

Zac

Hey Zac - thanks for asking. The tires are skinny and tall, on purpose - they are Uniroyal Laredo (265/70 r17). That gives us a 30+" wheel/tire height, which is close to the original.

The original ride height is as shown in the following photo. We decided to drop it 3 to 4 inches on the front and back. Dropped custom axle on the front, and we took out 13 of 21 leafs on the back. The M68 is a heavily-sprung ton truck, and the objective was to lower it, and to get a good ride. At the same time we're leaving it as stock as possible on the outside, so that lower ride height is about all you'll see as a difference. Lots of changes underneath of course, but those are to make it safer and more comfortable to drive.

"before" - the wheels/tires are the same height as current wheels and tires.

Thanks Dave,
Looks good.... it's a nice stance. Love it when they look stock on the outside but reworked inside. From my calculations those tires are 10.5" wide ....not bad at all..... is that the same on the front? Do you have Power steering? If not how is it to drive? I've heard the Bigger trucks have a better steering box then the smaller ones, maybe that helps?......Sorry about the 100 questions just trying to collect info.
Thanks again
Zac

All good, Zac. No worries. Tires/wheels are the same all around - another objective. Only other thing we had to do was use 2" spacers on the back because the Explorer rear-end is about 3.5" narrower than the original and we wanted it to look like the wheels/axles were same front and back.

New Toyota steering box, but it is still manual steering. We're just doing some test drives now and so far it is going to be fine for me although parallel parking is going to be a workout. I'm a big guy, so that's not an issue. My wife likes the truck, but does not plan to drive it - she would definitely not be able to handle steering.

Again the objective was that if you pop the hood or look in the cab it looks original as long as you don't get too detailed, so no power steering belts or air conditioning. We even had the rad re-cored instead of a new one, and had a generator rebuilt because we couldn't find an authentic looking alternator.

Not great showcase of the actual tires, but here they are. Last picture is the suspension with about 700lbs. of load in the bed.
Rear: Firestone Destination A/T Tire 30X9.50R15
Front: Destination A/T P235/7

The wheels are 15x8 in the front, and I believe(but never measured) 15x10 in the rear. The fronts were taken from my fathers other '56 and the rears were bought from a local Ford guy with all kinds of stuff. The chrome is absolutely ruined and would cost about $125 per wheel to fix, so I don't think they'll ever be nice again, but I like their width. My rear tires aren't big enough though, and look "stretched".
I wonder if I can run old rusted wheels on a fresh painted truck?
