Stuck Stud Removal

The radiator core support mounting studs on the front of my frame are toast. One was broke off and the other is seriously rusted to the point of not being structurally sound. All suggestions are welcome. I have new studs. I have tried penetrating fluids and lightly beating on it with a hammer. I'm thinking torch. Of course the only torch I own is the propane type but that could change. I could borrow one. Tell me what you think.

Stuck Stud Removal

Charles,

I've had very good luck removing bolts after heating them with a propane torch. Takes close to 5 minutes of heat though.

You can always drill them also, but trying to get that drill bit on the very center of the stud you're drilling out is near impossible.

I've never tried the candle trick they have discussed in the workshop forum - heat up the bolt and nut and then drip a bit of candle wax into the threads. some folks swear by it....

Good luck,

Their is a nut welded under that bracket. I would borrow a real tourch and heat that nut up and use some vice grips and move the stud back and forth until it comes out. The one that is broken off if you cain't get on it with some thing you may need to drill it. I would weld a nut to it than work it out like the other one.
