V-10 in 2017
Look'n to replace my '09 F150 Super Cab Flareside with the 2017 F250 or 350 Super Duty so it'll pull our new 5th wheel. I DO NOT want a diesel but want the V-10. Current reading suggests the V-10 will only be available in the chassis cab F350 & above. I'd like to have a standard pickup truck bed in an F250 Super Cab with a V-10. Might this be a possibility for 2017?

Unfortunately the V10 is dead to the F250/350 pickup trucks and I don't know of an old engine being reintroduced.....
I am hopeful they have an gas engine for the 2017s that is even more impressive than the V10, If I trade the way I normally have and don't stumble on a lot of money the used 2017 truck will be in the range of used trucks I will be looking at to replace my 06 V10 in the future.....

I haven't found anyone who has made a pretty graph like they have for the various engine choices in the F150, but what I would compare is torque curves.
Most guys appreciate the torque through lower RPM range, when towing.
If you can compare the 6.8L V10 on this chart:
Vs the 6.2 on this chart:
These charts make me think the V10 would be much superior for a dedicated tow rig.
The also make an interesting argument for the 3.5 EcoBoost, which something I belive Ford is working on bringing to us as an option. That's probably sacrilege around here . . . .

Seems to me that there is a lot of potential pent-up demand for a gas engine that puts out somewhere around 450-550 ft/lbs of torque.
Not everybody really needs 840 ft/lbs or more of torque, or a $8200 option just to tow the occasional 10-12k 5th-wheel or trailer comfortably, 4-5 times a year.
I keep seeing these threads about the V10 popping up, and people asking the same question over and over again. This is not a criticism at all, it is simply an observation of mine.
The 6.2 L is a decent engine, but some people need a little more grunt than it can provide. Ford should have a middle engine option for the Super Duty, in-between the 6.2 L gas and the 6.7 L monster diesel.

As the owner of a V10 currently, I think a big part of the issue is that Ford still offers the V10. I'm looking to get into a crew cab from a regular cab. I love my V10. I see it's still offered on chassis cabs. That's frustrating. Ford should listen. There are a lot out there that would gladly shell out an extra thousand or so for the V10. The new diesels are just too scary with all the "stuff" on them. It would be easier if they didn't still offer the V10.

Fewer engine options do keep cost down, and make inventory easier (which also keeps cost down). My guess is that when the new transmission comes out with more gears it will greatly dissolve the difference between the gas and diesel options, so adding another motor for a year or two just wouldn't make sense.
As for getting a 450 and putting a regular bed on, I'm sure it can be done, but keep in mind the frame is different on the pick-ups than on the straight frame chassis. But I wouldn't think twice about dropping the pick up style for a nice stake body or something. Plus if you have a company of some sort part of the body cost will be absorbed by the commercial upfit rebates.
Edit: Also, the v10 was balanced out for the year, so for any orders you're waiting until 2017 model anyhow at this point.

Very true, it's just very tantalizing seeing the V10 option for chassis cabs and not for "regular" trucks.
Maybe the promised increase in power for the 2017 6.2L will mitigate the issue. I sure wish Ford would release some numbers. Raptor numbers seem like a no brainer and would help people "get over" the V10.

Not really, the emissions class changes at 14,000# which is why it's only offered in the F450 Chassis and up. It is currently only certified for GVW's over 14K.

The 'Boss; family was to be offered in 3 displacements, the 6.2L being the middle size. A large version (7.0L?) was supposed to replace the V-10, but had durability issues in heavier (F-450 and larger) cab and chassis trucks. For that reason the V-10 stayed in production. I for one would like to see a larger 'Boss' eventually replace the V-10.
