The pads on my Plates where the shoes contact are extremely worn. It looks like someone may have attempted to grind the wear-grooves away. The pads are not co-planer and not parallel to the mounting plane. They fall off badly toward the outer edges. I have to believe the Shoes won't engage the drum as it should. I could do a Mig build-up and re-surface but that seems sketchy.
Sooooo After a lot of searching without success I need to ask the true experts:
Do F-1 Front Backing Plates interchange with F-100s?
Does anyone sell new or re-pops? Couldn't find anyone.
Yes, I could convert to Disc but was hoping to wait until I could manage a Mustang II type install.
Mine had grooves in them on the pads, shaped like the "v" in the edge of the shoes. I did the MIG thing, ground and draw-filed to make them smooth. You do need a part of the pad at original height to reference. Has worked fine for 15k miles.
Since you ultimately are going to replace them with a disc brake swap I'd have no problems with building them back into shape with welding. Heck, I'd have no problem doing it even if I wasn't going to replace them.
I can't remember what mine looked like. I vaguely remember messing with the original brakes when I got the truck so I could drive it, but that was back in the mid 90s and what brain cells remain from back then aren't always a clear source of info....lol

Given this wear is very common and that there are a ka-jillion of these plates out there, I'm amazed no one seems to offer them. It would be a pricey stamping die and would need serious oomph to bang it out though. Probably not worth it.
With IFS conversions being so popular, there must be many of them sitting around. May be placing a parts wanted in our parts for sale section, or keeping an eye on EBAY, or Craigs list. Best of luck, Im hopfully some will turn up
Not likely to find ones in better shape, Jim. When they are welded, the weld metal is harder than the base metal, so the repair is actually an improvement.
