Mechanical to Electrical

Im sure there is a thread somewhere that I just didnt find on this, but is it worth installing an electrical fuel pump system?
Secondly, best way to do this?
Im working on my 73 SCS.
Thanks!!

if its an in tank pump I can see less fuel evaporation in the line. If you let the pump cycle to ensure the float is full at the right PSI for your carb I see a good reason to have electrical.

Down side is if you have a fuel line issue you pressurize the leak and spill more fuel, with mechanical you just suck a fuel and air into the line. They both work. Biggest downside is if your mechanical pump still works; the down time of wiring everything up and not driving the truck.

If you put a pump in the tank, you either need a tank designed for an in-tank pump, or a pump designed for a tank that wasn't designed for an in-tank pump. Holy cow...does that make sense?? Anyway, the Aeromotive alternative has a design to prevent starvation in a stock tank, and it's about $500.00. Easier would be to use an in-line electric pump. That would be easy to install into the existing fuel line and wire up. More consistent flow than your mechanical pump. You would also need to have a pressure regulator at the carb, since both those options put out more pressure than the mechanical pump and can over-ride the float/needle/seat in the carb.

I did this twice. Put "carbed" EFI 460's into 2 79 Broncos. No provision on timing cover for the fuel pump. Could have swapped out timing covers maybe, wasn't sure if the eccentric for fuel pump was there either. I went with CARTER 6 psi electric, mounted back by the tank. Huge advantage for a truck that sits, is NOT having to prime dry fuel system using the starter. I got pumps from Summit, less than $100 it seems like.

I also used 3/8 - 1/2" thich rubber to "hang" the pump from, rather than mount solid using supplied rubber isolators. 1000% quieter. I used exhaust hanger material on one and rubber mud-flap material on the other
