1996 F350 4x4 Dually 6 speed.

Hey everyone first post here but there will be many more. My name is Dan and im going to look at a one owner 1996 F350 4x4 dually with a 6 speed specialty ordered from the factory with the other mason dump the guy bought brand new back in 96'. It has a nice plow on it and was kept in great shape, needs a tune up, (cap, rotor, wires, plugs, ect.) Exhaust manifold gasket leak on the driver side, and the 4x4 shifter bracket needs to be changed (I'm told its $175 from Ford) don't know the mileage yet but i know the clutch was done recently and has 6 new tires. So my question to the masses is without seeing the vehicle but hearing all this what do you think.

Was the first thing I asked on the phone was how he got a 6 speed and he tells me its from the factory he ordered it and another truck to be built the same and he still owns them both so I have to believe him I'll be sure to get some photos up.

1st off..

NOT a 6 speed. They did not even come out until 1999
it is a 5 speed...1,2,3,4,5&R.. reverse is NOT counted as a gear since it is not forward

Second, not kept in good shape if it needs a tune up, or they would of taken care of that.

Same goes for exhaust manifolds

Ford gets $300+ for the 4wd shifter.

Sound like your typical BS CL seller claiming their beat up, worn out work truck is something special
It also sounds like they found another sucker

F350, dually, 4x4, with a manual? Sounds like a winner if it's in nice shape, to me.

I have been around and have worked on vehicles since I was a little tyke, I have done my research and am definitely not someone who counts reverse as a forward gear, that being said I'm no sucker. I don't believe everything I am told, but after talking with the guy and my own buddy having already dealt with the man and having bought some of his equipment he tells me " he obviously takes good care of his machines." So trusting my friends recommendation I am going to go give the truck a solid run through, if it is what dude says it is then I'll make him an offer. And if he is wrong about the transmission I'll gladly call him a tard*.

corrected for ya.

not to say the truck couldn't have a zf6 in it now.it just that he couldn't order such an option back in the day.
by most peoples standards a vehicle left with an exhaust leak, broken off handles/shift ***** and in need of an engine tune up isn't considered "great shape" so there's no way you should be prepared to pay a "great shape" price.
not saying the truck may not be well worth and possibly far more than what he's asking.just saying, the current condition would be more along the lines of poor.possibly fair at best while in need of such repairs/maintenance.- this poor/fair condition can be used hugely in your favor while negotiating price! even if it's cheap/quick and easy to address.you want to make far more of an issue of the disrepair than it really is.one note i would be sure to bring up; oh man, what a can of worms those exhaust manifold bolts could open up.which is a very legitimate concern.thinking those will just turn right out nice for ya on a 20 yr old truck with a snow plow? oh no.no.lol.etc.etc.

cool! so right off i can tell you she's not factory.that there is a 4wd dually with a pickup bed.something that didn't roll off the assembly line.
ford did make a 4wd f350 dually but only as a cab and chassis (narrower frame-no pickup bed) so it's either a f350 cab and chassis 4wd,converted pickup or it's a factory 4wd srw pickup truck converted dually.
i can't tell which it is but Brad probably can.of course if you had the vin,we could tell you what it is too.
i don't think you can get the pickup bed to line up as good as that one is,on a cab and chassis,so im just gunna guess it started life as a 4wd,srw pickup.....but i can't tell for sure.
it does appear to have the larger offset rims that the 4wd cab and chassis came with but with the bed lining up so well,it's like a trick.

Side note the body line from the nose to the bed looks straight so I didn't think it was different.

yeah, the dealer probably had it sent away and converted for him.looking forward to checking out the vin.
however she got like she is,is just interesting.what she is now is the main thing, and you can't get any more capable than a 4wd dually,no matter how ya slice it.
