Factory Tach

I'm rebuilding my '85 F150 from the ground up and bought an '85 Lariat for parts. One of the things I've added out of the Lariat, was the factory tach. Does anyone know if the tach is able to be calibrated, it reads 500 RPM higher than actual. confused:

Thanks

Does it read 500 before you start the engine? Does it read 500 with the key off?

No it reads 0 with the key off. I've since solved the problem. The truck came with a I6 which I replaced with a V8 and the wiring has to be modified for the tach to read true with the V8. The #12 wire on the instrament panel harness (black wire) has to be cut and grounded forthe V8.

actualy, you must have the 6 cyl engine harness, because I have found that the 8 cyl harness have the groud wire that allows the factory tach to operate in the 8 cyl mode, there the tach wire plugs in, in the engine compartment, there are 2 wires, green/yellow and black, the black is the ground wire for #12 on the cluster, if you ground that, you will gound the #12 pin of the cluster allowing the tach to operate in 8 cyl mode

On a 6 cyl truck, the wire from pin #12 ends about 3" from the cluster plug, ground it and you're good to go.
