got another strange 239 problem....after a drive w/ normal brake usage, the brakes are hard as a rock and the brake lights come on.
System includes band new stock master cylinder and a major brake overhaul kit (shoes, springs and cylinders). System uses silicon fluid.
One concern is the brake cylinders where bought from Kanter and no two are the same manufacturer and have different bleed valves and return springs. (I will never buy from them again).
For some reason, the system is buildng pressure and not releasing it. Do not know if the pressure buildup is heat related or a bad valve/ cylinder.
After 30 minutes or so the pressure returns to normal andthere are no leaks.
Almost 20 yrs ago I had a 53 f100 do the same thing. After a while driving there would be no free travel in the brake pedal nd the brake lights were on all the time. I remember what I did but I'm not sure if it was right! There is a rod that has adjustment that goes into the master cylinder, all I did was adjust this alittle to gain the movement i needed to get the brake lights out. This may hve been caused by the pedal linkage binding? I don't know ? But I drove that truck for 2 years after that with no problems. Hope this helps.
Like BigWin says, adjust the M/C rod to get alittle more free play in it. It's keeping slight or moderate pressure on everything and causing the brake light to stay on. I'd also re-check the adjustments on your shoes and re-bleed the system for any residual air left behind.
