Newbie to ford...

I am doing a big project on a 390 and I would like input from everyone on what steps they would take to get the most out of the engine. The heads are c8ae-h. Also, anyone know where i could get a 4 speed manual???

We will also be doing a 390 project by the looks of it, so all replies will be twice as appreciated,

1rst, add headders. They are worth more power on an F.E. than other engines due to the F.E.'s restrictive manifolds. 2nd, 4v intake and carb. You'd be amazed how much power you instantly pick up. 3rd Cam. same as other two. The stock grind is way tame and is out of breath just after 4,000 rpm.

Thanks for the advice. I have read that the stock heads can hold the cobra jet valves, is that true, and would that help a lot or just be a waste???

I suppose you could put CJ valves in a std head, but the std head's ports are smaller than a CJ's.

Adding CJ valves to a stock head is a great upgrade. It doesn't take much port work at all to get a regular truck head to flow like the CJ heads.
