My F150 E-Locker seemed to auto engage when needed and I could leave black railroad tracks if I floored it from a stop.
With my F350 and snow, I noticed that I can sit in snow and just spin one wheel at idle, so I pulled the 4WD switch out, got a new for me light on the dash and both wheels spin, but the rear end hops. Is that normal?

When you pull the **** out, that fully locks the diff....just like a spool. Now, with that being said, both wheels have to spin or bite. And with Fords "soft" leaf springs, you are going to have some axle wrap, hence, wheel hop! And maybe someone can articulte a better picture than I. Hope this helps.
Sounds normal, hate the dreaded axle hop. Traction bars get rid of it, luckily my f450 doesn't have the same issue, it's different enough I guess, my '13 f450 was really bad for hop.
Very normal. In snow to get going I use 4WD. A few times just pulling the switch out got me going as the right wheel was the one on ICE and the left wasn't... But it usually does exactly what you experienced more than not...
Turning off traction control gets rid of the hop, but you still don't move forward... That's why I am happy to have Electronic Shift on the fly... I end up shifting out of 4WD to make right hand turns... and then I have to go back in. (Unless the right hand turn is one ice or snow)
Having said all this, 4WD get's me going but it sure doesn't help in the stopping department...
No locker is a smooth operating unit. There is not a issue with the elocker. Just driving around with the locker engaged when not needed isn't necessary. 4w low will get you the traction you need most of the time.

Today while plowing no traction control interference i did not know that was going to happen when it stays engaged over 20 mph. i am so happy i thought there was no way to turn it off completely lol. I did not use the button on dash apparently while locker is engaged it turns off the system thank god. by the way it engages much faster now too :-) take care
