Somehow, it makes me sad that my truck is now classified as old. Maybe 'cause it makes me feel old. It doesn't look old and doesn't feel old. It is just a baby, bein' an '89.
Well mine is an '88 and is 15 years old! Not old by any mean but not the most modern either. I still love my F-150 and will keep it driving for as long as I can.
My 88 is new to me and it will be mine for a long time. I wanted another F150 since I sold my 85 five years ago. I don't refer to it as old because its a baby compared to my 63 Merc.
guys I bought my 88 f-150 last december in Kentucky,,,,, I drive her Genevieve) everyday hard everyday and love her to death,,,,, her being only 15 and me being 37 makes her a baby!!!!! Did i mention that I got rid of a 2001 Chevy ( so sorry that I bought it first and last Chevy) and kept my My FORD!!!!! I've hsad many fords and loved all of them!!!!!!!!
like me, about 30 years ago i bought a 1955 ford f100, that was kinda old at the time, 18 years ago a bought a 1975 chevy silverado, now its a classic, and 3 months ago i bought a 1990 f150, guess its old, new to me though. guess ill have to wait another 12 years and buy another old truck, maybe a 2002.

I wouldn't, it would be considered junk!
I wouldn't own a newer truck when it was old. I can't imagine the problem's they'll have.

We all were wondering exactly what you were refering to as junk???? I am assuming that you were speaking of your 2003 Chevy???? I'm pretty sure you being a F T E moderator and all you wern't slandering our older trucks were you????
as I said in my reply earlier I just got rid of a 2001 chevy(junk) and kept my 88 FORD,,, best trucks I have ever owned are wearing blue ovals not sissy bowtie!!!
now, now, lets not start knocking chevys, you sound like he pepsi commercial always comparing themselfs to coke. i bought a 1975 checy silverado with 38,000 miles on it 16 years ago. didnt put a wrench on it until it hit 200,000 miles, altrnator, starter, water pump. then at 300,000 i put a rebuilt engine in it, another 100,000 miles and i replaced the sm465 4 speed tranny. i just bought a 1990 f150 with 103,000 mles and already replaced the water pump and im going to be replacing the fuel pumps in a couple weeks. im not a chevy nut or a ford nut, although i have a 1955 f100 street rod, and my wife drives a 1970 mustang with 90,000 original miles on it to work and back every day. my boat has a ford 460 in it. i use to have a stock 1955 f100 all original except i changed it to 12 neg. ground instead of 6 volt positive ground. and that was my daly work truck.certain year chevys look better than certain year fords. 53-56 f100 look much better than 53-56 chevy trucks. 55-57 chevy cars look much better than 55-57 ford cars.

I don't own a Chevy, only a GMC. And my point, as you obviously don't understand, was that I would NOT own a newer truck, regardless of make, when it is 10+ years old. I can't imagine the problems it would haveand how expensive it would cost to fix.
If you would have looked at my signature a little more, you would have noticed that I own a 1993 F-150. It is 10 years old, and has been the best, most reliable, non-costly truck ever. I've only put probably $600 in my Ford in 10 years of service.
I don't get where you say I am slandering any Ford trucks in my post, but you evidently didn't read the entire post very well.
Ok then,,, I may have mis understood your reply,,, but what were you refering to when you said you considered it junk?? And as I said I had a 2001 Chevy and it was junk!! I had it in the dealer 6 TIMES for brakes in a year and a half,,,, Finally The ABS went out and they wanted 3500.00 to fix,,, No more chevy!!
Now I apoligize for my reply but you did refer to an older truck being junk????
Does anyone know what the difference between a GMC and a chevy???? Being that I work for a tier 1 Automotive parts supplier and our part #s are the same for both GMC and Chevy I see no difference except a name.
Ask the GNOME on the Assembly line that slaps "GMC" or "CHEVROLET" Logos on the front, back, or sides. GMC's average 700-900 more than an identical Chevy.
Son just totalled my 95 Astro past tuesday. I miss it already. But I have the 93 F-150 to run me around.

Today's trucks are not built as well as older trucks, they are more or less cars with pickup beds. The metal isn't as rigid and tough, and the quality isn't as good.
And I did NOT say anywhere that an old truck was junk. There are some junk older trucks, but I did NOT individualize them.
Yeah, GMC and Chevrolet are pretty much identical, and a majority of the parts are the same. However, GMC and Chevrolet are seperating themselves as time goes along.
Ever look at a 2003 GMC and a 2003 Chevy? The only common parts are the beds, cabs, interiours(minus the seats), drivetrain. The front clips are completely different, many parts are different. Much more than just labels.
