Idle increase when put in gear
1990 F250 5.8 E40d. I found that my timing has been off since I bought the truck a few months ago and since corrected the truck runs a lot better but now I'm noticing when it's not completley warmed up the idle increases just a little when I put it in gear. Maybe this is normal? It doesn't seem so noticable when the thing is warmed up to temp. It increases in either forward or reverse and drops back down in park or neutral.

Probably normal - the computer that controls the engine also controls the transmission, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you're concerned, pull the codes.

Thanks Steve, I figured it was probably supposed to do it because it runs a whole bunch better with the timing advanced to where it's supposed to be.
