Detroit elec-trac I heard was for Dana 44/dana 60 only right now. Probably never for a nine.

I have ran a detroit in the back of my 78 in a nine with 35's and 38's. went to a 14 bolt and welded it. I perfer the detroit. but I am not running out to buy one just yet. It does stress the shafts more and tire wear will go up if driven daily on the street. but I would not rule one out just because of these reasons. you need to rationalize why you actually need one. then go from there. Put all the pros and cons on paper then decide.

Mini Spool?
I have a 1990 with the 8.8 in it and I installed an Auburn Locker about 3 or 4 years ago and have not had any problem yet. Its my daily driver, and the locker is an automatic one. I love it and it helps a whole bunch off-road too.

I had a home made "spool" in a '66 Mustang a long time ago. Actually, I just blew up the spider gears and they embedded themselves inside the carrier. Driving that way on the street, even for a short distance, is bad. It made the whole rear end of the 'stang hop going around even a slight turn. My advice, spools and street driving don't mix.
