I was just in the middle of doing the V Code leaf spring swap and noticed a broke part where the u-bolts sit and what looks to be attached to the trac bar. The piece is broken in half and I am not sure how this happened or when. Looking for advice on how to repair. The piece is welded to the axel.
Ouch...... broken track bar bracket. It does happen, they get fatigued. If it were mine, I'd weld it. If you don't weld, you'll need to find a decent welding shop. There are places that sell replacements, but the replacement still requires welding.
It looks broken where the steering damper connects. And there are some curious dents on that side of the bracket. Has it been whacked in the front or offroaded?
Simple fix for a fab shop especially if you provide that pmf bracket. I have been out in the middle of the desert and had to weld more then a few of those back on. Given the condition of that bracket I would grab a flashlight and inspect the rest of your brackets and suspension, primarily the track bar bracket at the frame end.
Thanks Guys. I inspected the rest of the mounts and components and nothing else seems to be damaged or broken. Does that replacement mount from PMF also include the part of the bracket needed to hold the steering stabilizer? I can't tell from the pictures.
Looks like the stabilizer mount changes the bolt orientation from vertical to horizontal and is a single sheer design.
Good eye. Any shop that can weld that could easily make it a double sheer in about 15 minutes if you desire. You would just want to make sure there are no interference issues with steering components. I'm certain there are other 4x4 parts places that sell replacement brackets..... I just happened to remember seeing that on the PMF site.
If it were me, I'd probably remove the track bar at the upper end in order to drive the truck to a local shop to be welded. I wouldn't want it to cause a steering issue (although it doesn't look like it broke just yesterday).
