Found a diesel repair and performance shop near my house. He said all I really need is the DPF delete pipe and H&S single tune (50HP single tune). Said I can keep my OEM clean air intake stuff. I asked about the EGR delete. He said that H&S tuner will block it.
Labor and materials _ $1218.00

great points.....

the oil cooler can get clogged on the coolant side as well as the oil side.....I have a coolant filter as well as a 2 micron oil bypass filter.

prior to installing the oil by pass filter I would have frequent rens and black oil....the 2 micron filter removes a lot of the soot and my oil is now a drak brown and regens much less.

my coolant tank has cleared up with the coolant filter.

Figure 1 hr for the delete pipe install and tune
That's $120 accounted for
The delete pipe is $175-$200
That's $320...
$900 for a single tune and no monitor? Ripoff

That said an H&S xrt is going to run you $1400 by itself... An SCT livewire is in t $900 range and would give you pretty much the same thing AND the ability for custom tunes... That way you could run a 50hp tow tune with custom trans tuning.

The oil cooler is only going to clog on the coolant side. But yes a coolant filter is still a good idea. You should still be draining and filling every 20k though.

And the oil bypass has nothing to do with regen... Yes its a great idea and helps keep oil filtered but your regen frequency isn't going to change because of that.

Going back to talk with the diesel repair/performance shop this morning with more questions about having a tuner with a monitor for example.
Had a real bad day yesterday with this truck! It blew heavy blue smoke for over 40 miles. But the dash notice would keep changing - cleaning exhaust filter, then change to drive to clean exhaust system, then change to cleaning exhaust filter, then showed completed, and then went back to drive to clean exhaust system. I drove 60 miles and it wouldn't clear the dash notice. The notice is gone since I had to turn the truck off, but I know the regen isn't finished.
Stopped at dealer during this debacle. Said it might be that the DPF is shot! But can't get to the truck until next monday to test. No OEM DPF's available, only remanufactured ones for $1800. Like I'm gonna put a reman unit on my truck - NOT! But 4 regens in 800 miles sounds to me like a bad DPF (or another problem)? No codes or CEL's showing up.
What worries me is other comments here such as "Exhaust back pressure sensor bad", bad oil seal turbo leak, overfueling injector, or bad EGR causing the problem. I don't want to delete yet if one of these are the problem.

Sounds to me like you are getting oil into the exhaust. Check blow by? If you set the oil fill cap in the hole does it blow off? If it does you have a cracked piston or worn rings. If the cap stays in place pull the down pipe from the back of the turbo and check for oil in the exhaust.

As long as you have always let the truck complete regens that dpf should last quite a while. It isn't uncommon to see a clogged dpf then have the turbo fail within a few thousand miles of the dpf replacement.

You could also have an over fueling injector, this will cause excess soot and thus excess regen. Have them do an injector balance test to make sure that you don't end up with a hung injector (that will cost you a motor...) in the near future.

Or you could just have a clogged dpf, but check blow by and injectors as well. I would hate to hear you spend the money for a replacement dpf or delete only to end up with a $15,000 repair bill for a motor...

Thanks CrazySob! I will have these things checked first. Will head back to that diesel shop tomorrow and discuss before putting on delete kit.

Anyone who knows 6.4s will know how often they have piston issues and how good they are at hiding them. If you bring it up any reputable diesel shop should know what to check and it shouldn't take more than 10 min to do it.

Dropped it off tonight at the diesel shop for diagnostics. Will know tomorrow. They have the computers and test stuff like the dealer has. I feel good about this place. If its a bad DPF, it's all gone! Delete to be done.
He's gonna get me a CTS II and delete pipe, and labor $1600. I told him I wanted the monitoring stuff. Keeping optimistic here!
