Just curious what kind of mpg everyone's getting. I've got a 97 ext cab 4x4 auto 7.3 and I'm getting anywhere from 18-20 mpg. This is a bone stock truck.
That sounds like 4.10. Look on the driver's door jamb for a sticker; what's the AXLE code? If it's C9 or 39, it's 3.55. If C5 or 35, it's 4.10. That's pretty good economy for 4.10s.
Before the instrument cluster issues became severe, my 4.10:1 open differential with the E4OD averages 18.5 MPG unloaded. I get about 12 - 14 MPG loaded/towing the travel trailer. I think those numbers might be a little higher, but it's difficult to calculate when the odometer blinks off and back on. I average 17-18 now with a manual and 4.10s...best I ever had was 21.8 in the mountains. Worst was 7.9. 25 mpg on 4.10s... must have been running a gear vendor behind that zf lol

There are only 22 f-350's with 7.3's in the list below, but it is a pretty good tool.
I have a '96 automatic F250 with a 3.55 differential and factory-sized 23585R16 tires. Through the past 20 years of ownership, I found I can depend on the following:
