Hi guys, this is first time on any forum, and it sounds like fun. Anyway, i,ve got an 86 f150 short box stepside 302fi with the eec-1v system thats drivin, me nuts. Is there anyway to upgrade(get rid of it), at reasonable cost???? Or should i go to carbs, or just go crazy and put a 428 in???Also, how can i lower it without buying a drop spindle kit???Many thanx, anfenut!!!

Just spent 300.00 on diagnostic and they replaced a module (130.00), fuel filter that was shot, checked the fuel regulator(o.k.) but the injectors are suspect as they leak down way too fast, so thats why it is such a pig to start when its hot and you,ve left it to go do sumthin then come back, like shoppin, etc...it looses its prime so ya gotta crank it for awhile, not fun and the fix is as you know expensive. I,ll run premium for awhile to see if that helps.Idle quality is much better now, doesn,t stumble, stall, or surge anymore either, it was gettin kinda scary at an intersection caus you never knew what was goin to happen. Thanx for the reply, and i,d still like to lower the truck!!! Any ideas????

I'd give you're Fuel pump a look over on the hard starting, Plus the Kill Switch thats in the Pass. Floor board under the dash "i can't think of the right name for it" Because your Fuel line has a Return line that allows for pressure to release when not running. I'm not sure where ya live but $300.00 to have it on a Computer is high here, about $65.00 at the max.

On lower the truck i have no clue

Two steps:

First pinch off the fuel return line, then test fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. If system keeps pressure, it is the pressure regulator.

Second pinch off the fuel supply line and return line. If it still leaks down at the test point suspect an injector(s). If it now holds pressure, suspect the fuel pump.

This assumes thorough inspection hasn't revealed a leak from a line or at a connection.

If by diagnostics, you mean pulling the trouble codes from the computer, all you really need is a paper clip and a Haynes manual. (About $18) The manual says to use an analog multimeter, but all you really need to do is watch the "check engine" light flash out the codes. Have fun!
