They numbered in the high tens of thousands if not over a hundred thousand. In 1963 F100 2WD alone they made 35,963 Flareside pickups so not exactly rare. There was also the F250 and F350 2WD and F100 and F250 4WD models. I'd rather not dig through all the data right now, but suffice to say they were not a rare sight in the day.
OK, here's some slightly better numbers. There are some holes in the info, especially 4x4 trucks in 1962 and 1965. But, these are some available MINIMUM production numbers. If anyone has better info let me know.
Yeah, as TA cautions they are minimum figures. Production numbers appear in many publications, but I've never seen a footnote that says, for example, "USA production only - the same truck was also built in Canada for domestic use and for export to the USA and other countries" or "These were also made in South America but we're not counting them". Maybe we will never know the true pre-'67 numbers.
