Fuel Pump Time

First off, I want to thank FTE in general for help I have gleaned through searches over the years. Mostly it has been the V-10 groups excellent knowledge base group of guys. Since joining up 10 years ago I have learned much about my '04 F250 Super Duty with the V-10. When I bought my truck it had barely 10,000 miles on it, it turned 70,000 in November this year. The bulk of those 60K miles have been towing a big toy hauler trailer.

Recently I have had some trouble with a crank like crazy but no start condition. I did some searching here and found it could possibly the IAC, but the most likely cause would be a fuel pump that will work just great until shut down. Then it might be cranky about starting back up again without a bump to the gas tank, or in my case, just grabbing the the rear corner of the box on the truck and giving the truck a good shake.

So, now I need to replace the fuel pump. I am looking for advice to either have the local private shop ($840)do the job or doing it myself. I am unclear of the procedure for changing it and am not entirely sure of what pump I should buy to replace the faulty one.

Any advice the collective has is appreciated!
Scott

May be you should diagnose further ,like checking fuel pressure when refusing to start , verifying fuel pump has 12V when cranking (@ inertia switch ) ,etc.

good luck,

I did mine, 2001 CC, wasn't that much of a problem. The bolts need to be PB Blastered. I used a couple of 6 blocks to catch each end and a jack and 2x6 in the middle to raise and lowers the it. It really needs to be empty, the tank is very light by itself. Take the vent and fill hose off at the tank end. Don't try to unhook hoses or electrical on top of the tank till you have it on the blocks. Really easy to get to after you let it down a few inches. You'll need a strap wrench to get the pump out.
