I just want to know if my plan is possible (yes I know it is illigal). Can i take by stock 5.0L EFI 89 F150 and remove the manifols and replace them with marquis or crown vic manifolds (so the sensor wond be on the cat) remove the cat's, and i have not decided i want to eather run duel or singal flowmaster 40s. Will I have any problems with backpreasure etc. ?
Yes you should be able to reinstall those Marquis manifolds on the truck...my question is why the heck would you go through all the trouble of pulling manifolds for another set of them?!
Stock 5.0 headers will out flow those manifolds and can be picked up cheap. I have a set of these with matching y-pipe sitting in my garage is ya want them. Even has an O2 bung that is placed correctly.
The reason I want to replace the manifolds is because I want to remove the catalytic converters from the exhaust system. The cats were clogged so I removed the catalyst now they are just empty containers, I totally removed the second cat and would have removed the pre cat but the 02 sensor is located on it. The motor and trans are destined to live in my 1966 F100 and in Saskatchewan we do not get emissions checks so removing them is far better (cheaper) than having them replaced. The reason I want to use Marquis or crown vic manifolds is because I am sure that the sensors were located directly on them and I was not sure if the truck ones came in that configuration. I know they will physically fit but I have been getting a lot of conflicting information on backpressure (it’s good... it’s bad... blah blah blah...) some people have said that removing the cats will reduce the backpressure and cause the engine to perform bad, where as I always thought that backpressure was negative and you should try and avoid it at all costs. So I needed to know before I start whether this setup will cause the engine to run improperly (ex. conflicts with the SD setup etc.)
Thanx JJ
P.S. is my problem real or is this all miss information?
