Broken Drive Shaft
There is something I must explain. My 4x4 was not working. I had just recently had a new seal put on my front axle, and hte mechanic had failed to test the 4x4 to make sure it was working. It wasn't. I knew that it wasn't, yet i wasn't going to quit and ruin my fun off-roading excursion.
My friend and I were off-roading, and at the time when I broke it, rock climbing (we were mudding and rock climbing all day). I was negociating my way up a 4 or 5 foot incline that had a lot of "erosion canals" about 1' wide and deep each. In 4x4 it would have been no problem. Ah, but I was in 2x4. All of the power from my F-350 IDI Turbo diesel was going to my two rear wheels. Yet there was a problem, my rear two wheels were locked in some "erosion canals" (as I call them). This caused the wheels to not want to spin, but the engine and the driveshaft wanted too, and to do thus, something had to give. And there went my driveshaft. It made two loud clunks (hitting my diesel tank's skid plate). I was the only one in my truck at the time, but one of my friends walked on over to my window, with a big grin, as I was rolling back down the hill slowly. I was giving it gas, yet still rolling backwards. Odd, I thought. And that is when it hit me. Rolling down hill while giving it gas + Friend trying not to laugh + Clunk Clunk = Broken Driveshaft. I knew before he had even let a word roll out of his mouth. I wasn't too mad, and I knew that these things would happen eventually and the time had come for one of "these things."
Anyone else out there had a similar experience? Post it if so.
Long Live TEXAS.
