We have just bought an engine from a scrap yard, at a price that was almost for free. Tappet covers have 5 bolts so I know its an FE, but what size FE? I realise that the only way to really know what size it is, is to measure the bore and stroke, but I was hoping that it could be narrowed down to a least one or two.
The number on the intake manifold is: D3TE 9425 A1, there is a DI[or1]F written on one side and a 28 horizontally on the other side. Date stamp seems to be 4F14. Bellhousing has 44S stamped on the top. Thats all the numbers we could find at the moment.
According to the guy at the scrapyard it came of a Ford truck.
Can anyone help me with this, I am hoping that the 1973 part of the number will narrow it down to whatever was built in that year.
Thanks
The date code means it is a 1974 truck intake, but intakes can be changed. Try getting the block number from the pan rail area above the starter area. There were only two FE's factory installed in 1974, a 360 and a 390.
Can anyone help me out with a web site or manual that gives the std specs for 73 390/2v. My son and I are rebuilding, and its time to mic the block and crank.
