I just received these head rests that I purchased off of ebay. They are from a 2003/4 Lincoln Navigator. As you may be able to tell from the picture the posts are all slightly crooked and the exposed part of the posts is not shiny. They also reek of Lysol. The color doesn't quite match either. More of a tan vs. my Ex is more beige.
Anyways, I searched out and bought the guides that fit these from a couple of different sources before I got the headrests. My question is if I return the headrests and look for lets say some Expedition headrests will they fit into the Navigator guides?? Just don't want to try and return to 3 different places. There are several Expeditions and Explorers at "the gold mine." Might go check them out to get some cheap headrests.
I don't know if it will help but that's my thread with pics of my third row install from an expedition. In the pics the color looks slightly off but it's just the photography, they are a perfect match. You'll need more than just the plastic pieces anyway, I think. I'd try to get the whole setup from whatever donor truck you use. Pull a second row headrest and take it in to your "gold mine" for color matching.
Thanks. I didn't want to take over your thread with my questions. I do have a donor Expedition right now from the Expedition forums that is a 2003 with the same color as our Excursion. He is willing to give me the guides too. I was just trying to figure out if he should try to get the guides out or just cut the whole assembly out. Not sure which is easier or better. Taking it to an upholstery shop to install. If he doesn't want to cut out assemblies (I need 4) then how hard is it to get guides out? Do you just have to reach in there and pinch the bottom of the guides to slide them out??
Might be a lot in shipping to send 4 head rests and 4 assemblies. Not sure if cost of shipping would make up for them having to fabricate new assemblies?
I don't really understand what you would do with the plastic guides without the metal tubes they install in.
Guy was able to get guides out. I was hoping upholstery shop could figure that out. I thought I saw another headrest install where they made some. I'm super happy I seem to of found 4 headrests WITH guides that match my interior!

For my install, there wasn't any actual upholstery work needed. Just a little bit of welding on the seat frame. The factory seat cover and foam is quite easy to remove to do the work.
Right. It sounded odd to me but apparently this is the type of shop that does this. I have one locally that has installed headrests before. Welding and all.
