Don't laugh, but I usually drive a minivan to work, my wife's T&C in my signature. It's not the coolest vehicle, but it is comfortable with power everything and XM. Most importantly it gets 20 mpg instead of the 10 mpg the SD gets. I was driving a '97 Nissan Hardbody to work most days, but I sold it last summer as it seemed pointless to have two trucks and a vehicle that had no room for car seats. Even though it was very basic and was a bit of a noisy rattle trap on the highway I still miss it. It was by far the most reliable vehicle I ever owned...until I decided to sell it. (It was like it knew.)
I'm currently researching and looking at Cherokees and Grand Cherokees to use as a daily driver and a desert exploration vehicle. The SD is just too big and heavy for the jeep trails around here.
What I wish I still had is my 1985 VW Golf diesel. I paid $900 for it in 1998 with 120k on it. It got 50-60 mpg and was very reliable. A previous owner installed a larger fuel tank which gave it a 800 mile range. I was sick of looking at the ugly thing and was spoiled by a newer car we had bought and I sold it for $300 in 2005. I would gladly pay $900 to have it back again though, even for just a commuter vehicle.
