Hard start
I have a 1986 Ford E 150 cargo van 300ci engine. The engine was rebuilt a few years ago, has about 6000 miles on it now. Recently when I start it after it has been running a while it is hard to start. I have to hold the pedal to the floor and crank the engine for several seconds(sometimes more ) to get it started. When the engine is cold, it starts fast.

Sounds like a classic stuck choke/improper choke unloader setting. May also be the float needle valve is leaking some.

Hard start
Ok Thanks I thought it might be something like that. The only thing I haven't replaced is the carb. Think it might be a coil, something like that? New fuel pump was installed a few years ago but could be going bad? I have noticed sometimes when I turn the motor off it lets out a sort of sigh air rushing out of a balloon or bag.
