Didn't want to proceed to hijack a topic so I want to ask here.
I already found C4AZ 9C786-A which is a smooth plug that hammers into the bottom of the exhaust manifold that has a small hole in the side of it for the fresh air tube to plug into.
I also found D3TZ-9A714-B which is listed as Choke Control Air Intake Insert - Screen.
I want to ask on this part, what purpose does this screen serve?
Is it required for a properly functioning choke?
Is it used in place of running a tube up to the carb for fresh air? I am curious on this part as it says its a screen and from what I seen it looks like a similar mesh you would find in a factory oil fill/breather cap.
I tried to find D9BZ 9820-A which is the fresh air choke tube but could not find one. What size tubing should be used? I might just have to make both the fresh air and the choke tubes from scratch.
That insert goes into the manifold under the round cap that the air returns to the choke. You will have a fresh air tube from the bottom of the carburetor to the bottom of the manifold. It will then be heated from the manifold and come out the top to return to the choke. I am not positive, but I believe ford used that screen to collect heat from the manifold and as the air passes through it, it would be hot when it returned to the choke. It is more efficient to use it.
AH ok so the purpose it serves was the one I was wondering about that it would absorb the heat and transfer it to the air better.
I can get a five pack motorcraft one as well as the small plug that goes on the bottom. Down side is I have to figure out what size tubing it is as local part stores only carry straight flared tubing when I think brass coiled tubing would be better as it would bend easier without so much force.
Only thing I am curious about is this hex head plug in mine. I cant get in a position to see if its threaded in or just pressed in. If its pressed in will be a hell of a time getting it out but once out I could drill the top of the manifold to get the broken tubing out and blow the shavings out through the bottom hole. But if its threaded now I can get it out easily but not too sure how the factory plug would seal on the threads if it would even fit to begin with.
That hex head is threaded in, but you will probably never get it out unless you use a blue flame. If I remember correctly, the round plug at the top of the manifold should come out and this is where you drop the element in. I have never had anyone need to replace that element, but it is possible to get debris build up in there if the tubes are not attached. I am sorry, I do not remember the tubing size off hand. I will check this weekend and try to right back.
Mine does not have a plug at top. The hump in the manifold has a hole for the choke tube to press into and it has a hex head "plug" currently on the bottom side.
