4.6l swap

Hey there is used to have a 1987 bronco ii with the 2.9l and 5Mt.. unfortunately I couldn't find any parts for it no matter where I went..and at the time I didn't know about forums... I ended up sending it to the junk yard... miss it everyday... my questions are ifor I where to buy another or even the full size version( which I like more) where can I get good parts for it?.... my other question is if have a 2003 Mustang gt with the 4.6l... is it possible to swap my 4.6l into a bronco ii..? And if so what will I need because I thought it would be a great idea/project.. thanks

You couldn't find parts for a Bronco II anywhere? Any local auto parts store, Ford dealer or internet parts place like Rock Auto would have most of the maintenance parts or be able to get them for you. The same is true for a FSB. There are specialty places like Jeff's Bronco Graveyard that carry trim pieces that you might not be able to get. Some things just aren't reproduced so the junkyard might be your only option there.

As for the 4.6 in a Bronco II, my guess is that it wouldn't fit since the modular engines are so wide.

if you can fabricate really well and know how to read a schematic most any motor can be put into a rig.

With that said the better swap for the BII is typically a 4.0 motor/trans from an explorer. Some have dropped a 5.0 in a BII but i feel that a bit on the overkill side.

I dont really see the 4.6 being a good motor for an FSB due to it being more suited for a light weight car. the bronco weighs close to 3 tons. not to mention finding the necessary transmission to work because the car trans wont.

It pulled full size trucks and expeditions around for years, 2&4wd. More power than a 5.0 that came stock in a bronco. If it's a mud truck that you want to scream and sling the mud out of the tire tread, it will turn some rpms and makes its power up there. Sorry, I'm just a fan of the 4.6. A 281 cu inch motor drove a 350 Camaro to extinction. Not that I see this getting done by someone that could not source parts for a bronco II.

While I think it might be possible to swap a 4.6L into either a FSB or Bronco II with fab skills, his question for this swap was specifically about putting it in a Bronco II. I'm not sure if you guys are skipping over that part of the question.

I own an 87 BII 2 wd. you can probably shoehorn a 4.6 in it. I wouldnt want to have to do any maintenance on it. Anything is doable with good fab skills.I have seen a BII with a 302 installed. All the power you need for such a small package. Wouldnt have wanted to change plugs in it either. If you gonna go to all the fab work to squeeze a 4.6 in you might as well throw a 460 in it. Just about the same width.
