2000 7.3 feels like lacking power

hi guys my 00' 7.3 is acting a little strange lately. i was towing a 15 foot trailer the other day for about 250 miles that wasn't all that heavy and my foot felt like it was very close to the floor. I had it to the floor and the truck would only go 60. now even without that trailer its better but still i feel as if i have to really put my foot down into it to speed up. if i go all the way to the floor in o/d it'll downshift and start speeding up but very very slowly then i run out of pedal and am at the floor, a lot slower than before. Before i wouldn't get to the floor and id already be moving pretty good. but now i gotta keep it pretty much 3/4 way down and keep it there to get up to speed and stay there. truck has 253k no tuner or programmer just 6637 intake and an exhaust, ww2. leveled on 35's. the tranny isn't slipping or at least doesn't seem to be. She doesn't shift perfect but its not anything crazy bad for stock with 253k on it. maybe something wrong with the actual pedal? or hopefully not but maybe the trans or motor , or maybe a sensor or something? any help will be great! thanks

Do you have a boost gauge? It could be a boost leak somewhere?

You can't alway hear it, plus it could be your up-pipes. if they are stock they have a gasket that degrades and leaks exhaust past them, look for soot on the firewall near the up-pipes and on the actual pipes themselves. If it is those that are leaking the gasket needs to be replaced or, as I would recommend, changing them over to the bellowed type, either dorman, or IH (I personally chose the dorman route as many here have) and never have to worry about them again. Also check for soot between your block and exhaust manifolds, the manifolds can leak over time too.

If you do find a leaking/busted boot then I can recommend the boots from RiffRaff, they are a great quality product. Please consider also getting the plenum inserts also, our intake plenum on these trucks is almost nothing more than stamped sheet metal, which is EASILY deformed when trying to clamp down on these boots. These inserts allow you to get a good, tight connection.

This where the diagnostic tools like TQ PRO $5 or the like come in to play. I have come to learn data is your friend with the 7.3. Without knowing your exact PSI on your HPOP/IPR witch is a critical thing. Its hard to know. Also the fuel pressure, as the lower O ring rubber seal by your millage if not replaced is more than likely baked. I just replaced mine at 115K because one was dribbling lightly leaking. The rest were going. I think all it takes is one good over heat and they are toast. I was close one time plowing snow last year with the plow out front and some cardboard in front of the grill. I didnt leave enough open for the fan to pull enough I guess with the plow on, thats all it took.

It could be the exhaust back pressure valve stuck on. EBPV. Causing you loss of power. Does your truck sound like it's kind of hissing ? Or like a jet?

My nieghbor has a scan tool but im not sure if it reads fuel pressure or hpop psi, its not leaking any fuel though. The tq pro reads all these things?

Up pipes look good no soot on the pipes or firewall. Was in the process of taking the cac boots off to inspect them but it started pouring (thanks florida). So once it stops ill get back to it. The ebpv valve does leak a little oil so ive been planning on getting the non ebv pedastal and exhaust outlet.

Sometimes a visual inspection of the boots does not reveal problems. I had mine replaced a while back as we were in there anyway. A couple of the were so rotted that the outer shell was about all that was left. They could have blown out any time. Jut my $.02

I took them out completely not just looking at them and they had no wear or dry rot or cracks on them

Did you pull the spider and check the two boots that supply the intake? These are just as prone to failing.

Where in Fl are you? I have AE and would be more than happy to swing by if your not too far away and record some data for you?
