Excursion Wheel/Tire Sizes
This thread has lots of different spring/lift combos with various tire sizes, it makes for good reading for anyone looking to modify their EX suspension.

Drunken Unicorn asked about gearing. We have 3.73 and I doubt the Ex will ever do much, if any, towing.
We don't really want that huge gap that seems to come with a 4" lift and not doing 35s or taller. What's everybody's opinion of doing a 2 1/2" SD suspension lift, 16x9 wheels, and staying with the original 265/75/R16s.
Thanks again
X FAN & Pirate 4X4 :: Here are some pics & dimensions for you 2

X FAN: here are 3 XXX's ,White one on right stock on 265/75/16's, Stock wheels.
White one in middle has V-codes in front 265/75/16's, Stock wheels.
Blue one on the left has 4" pro-comp S/D lift with 16.5/9.75 wheels & 37" tires.
The key to fit on the X, S/D front is the inner fender & fender lip at the back of the tire. The 265's on stock wheels are about 30 1/2" tall. The Stock X has 4 1/4" gap at the inner fender & can touch if driven crazy, The V-code has 5 1/2" at this spot with the 265's, The 4" lift & 37's nets only 3 3/4" at this spot & is fairly easy to make contact & you can see in the pics it's no big deal & the plastic can be trimmed if desired. A 9.75" wheel is going to be two wide for a 265 & if you do the V's a 9.75"/ 33x12.5 Tire will be a great match.
Pirate : I don't think you can go lower W/O cutting or cutting & flares PLUS the coil frontend should have the tire inset more than the leaf set up in the pics.
My front axle housing is still the Dana 50 but I plan to swap in a 06 Dana 60 from a coiled truck. My 4 link and coil setup is from Fabtech not ford. If I ever get around to putting in the new axle ( have been waiting to break mine again ) I want to lower mine as low as I can get it ( with out steering components hitting frame or engine bits ) and then alter the fenders for clearance as needed.
I had an 06 with a 60 pickup that was lifted 4" ( 6" ex ) that I ran 40" tires by running fiberglass fenders with bigger wheel arches and it worked out great.
Anyhow, I like how the your Ex sits on 37's with the 4"

17X9 with 33 X 12.5 X 17 will work very well also.
