I have had my 2014 f 250 for 21 months (22,000 miles) and last Sunday I noticed for the first time, that my steering wheel didn't lock when I shut the truck off. Tried it several times. It still hasnt locked at least every time I checked. Did they do away with locking wheels. Before you say yours locks,go check. I mentioned it to a couple buddys, they said theirs locks. They grabbed the wheel, nothing, not locked.
I thought the same thing. I bought a used 2010 F-250 XL. The steering wheel didn't lock. 3 weeks ago, the 12 o'clock position on the steering wheel was at 6 o'clock, to the right. The steering wheel locked. I tried it again. It worked. Weird. But now I can lock my wheel.
Sitting in my '15 350 right now. Gotta say I didn't expect this. Does NOT lock. Key out of ignition. Turning wheel about 60 degrees in both directions. Must be how it's meant to be....

yeah,I can't believe it took me so long to notice. Don't know why they changed.
I remember this happening with my 2014 F250. I found advice on a forum someplace quite some time ago. I just went out and tried it to refresh my memory.
Turn the steering wheel either right or left until the Ford emblem in the center of the wheel is upside down. While the truck is still running is probably the easiest way. Turn key off. Wheel should be locked then. Try this before running to a dealer.
Kinda bizarre, but maybe there's a method to the madness. If someone tried to hook your truck from the rear to pull it away, the front wheels are now slightly turned. Which should make it hard to pull any distance without the truck wanting to track to one side or the other.

So what your saying is,anyone that shuts their truck off while the steering wheel is turned half or more unlocks the locking mechanism? Repeat to enable it again?
I just reread your post. Maybe your saying the only time it locks is when its turned half or more. I still thought it used to lock,no it doesn't. Curiosity has gotten the best of. I'm putting on some boots and going out to the shop and find out. I'll be back (in my best Arnold voice)........
Just went out and tried every combination imaginable and it still doesn't lock.Either they did away with it or something is broke. Unless somebody else has a different idea.

I've got the same year 250 as you. With engine running, like I'd just pulled into
a parking spot & put it into park, I turned the wheel to the right until the Ford emblem was upside down. I held it in that position and turned the key off. The steering wheel locked. Same thing if I turned the wheel to the left. It worked every time I tried.
The key must be removed from the switch for it to lock, I neglected that part in the first paragraph. I found my original answer when I had the same question with a 2013 F150 STX. It worked on that truck and it works on my 2014 F250.

Is that the only time you can get yours to lock? If you just pull straight into a parking lot,and shut your truck off will it lock? Every vehicle I have ever owned, the wheel locked. This one I thought was no different untill last Sunday. Now I'm not sure.

Using the routine I described is the only way I've seen yet to lock it. If I just pull straight in, shut the truck off and remove the key the wheel doesn't lock. I have to do the partial turn of the wheel so the the Ford blue oval is upside down, then shut off & remove key.
While looking for searching online last night for the answer, an old post by me on another forum from when I had the 2013 F150 actually appeared on Google. So I tried the same formula on my current truck. It does indeed work for me.
More information turned up during that search where someone had posted that a dealer told them that Ford did away with steering wheel locks after 2011. I don't believe that to be accurate, given that I can lock mine up.

I cannot get mine to lock no matter what I try.I still can't believe it was like that since new. I would of noticed it not locking before now. Buddy of mine has 2010 f250, his will not lock now anyhow. He like me, can't believe it has always been that way.
